The Medical Metropolis: Health Care and Economic Transformation in Pittsburgh and Houston
Professor Andrew Simpson (History, Duquesne) describes how "big medicine" reshaped major cities in the post-war and post-industrial era. With gleaming hospital towers come remarkable, life-saving advancements and also stark economic inequalities.

At noon on the same day, Professor Simpson will deliver Grand Rounds for the University of Pittsburgh Department of Medicine. That talk is entitled "Linking the Past and the Future: Using Medical History to Understand Current Issues in Health Care." More information can be obtained on their website or by joining our mailing list.

The lectures are derived from his book: The Medical Metropolis: Health Care and Economic Transformation in Pittsburgh and Houston (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2019).
